My First Post – A Steep Learning Experience

Today I had my first experience messing around with coding. While installing python was quite easy, the next steps to get jupyter notebook installed were quite frustrating.

While a classmate was able to help me figure it out, the documentation in the various instructions did not make it clear that the installation script had to be done on the plain command line, not within python. This was either overlooked in all the documentation I found or its a reflection of my inexperience with any type of coding work. Thankfully a fellow naval officer at Stanford just got done with a bunch of python coding work, so I reached out to him for some resources. I imagine between him, ChatGPT, and further online documentation I might be able to get a working understanding of python.

Regardless I look forward to trying to tackle the next assignment in my class.

I’ve had more success and an easier time setting up my website and blog posts. I’ve already uploaded my bio though it was a bit clunky as I had to insert and image of the PDF of my official Navy biography. Regardless, as some point soon I’m going to actually pull out the text and my bio photo to make a proper about me page. It will also make things a bit less cumbersome since my bio is now out of date and needs to include me starting graduate school.
